There are many facets to making our homes affordable for our partner families.
Property is typically one of the most costly aspects of our home building and buying process. To help keep mortgage costs affordable, we must purchase inexpensive land or acquire property through in-kind donations including planned giving and the donation of bank-owned properties. Our homes are built by volunteers. Men and women, who over the years, have continued to work hard swinging hammers and paintbrushes to build and rehab our homes. Our volunteers work closely with our volunteer construction staff on the build sites to keep construction cost as low as possible. We also partner with a number of subcontractors that donate materials and skilled labor to build our homes.
To help keep our homes affordable, the main systems in the home – heating and cooling, electric and plumbing – are added with energy-saving goals in mind. To keep these bills low, each home is built with energy efficient materials and standards in mind. This improved functionality helps lower monthly bills and also reduces the carbon footprint of each Loudoun Habitat home.
