We have two days for getting deals – Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Today, we have a day for giving back. Today, GivingTuesday, is the opening day of the giving season: a reminder of the “reason for the season.” Every act of generosity counts, and each means even more when we give together. This year, our goal is to raise $5,000 which will be used to help renovate a town home in Leesburg. Let's work together to help our next homeowners, a family of five. Here is their story:
Dad was supporting his family through ownership of a small landscaping company actively helping his wife raise their three sons. Leading up to the family’s approval into our Homeownership program, he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s/Dementia. In just three years, he has lost the ability to speak, he is no longer able to work, and receives in-home health aid services. Mom now works full-time while balancing the active lives of her family and the medical needs of her husband. All three boys talk of how hard she works and how she sets high expectations for them.
The family applied to our program with the goal of seeking a more permanent and stable home for their sons so they did not have to live in a rental unit with rates that keep rising. Their current living conditions are cramped and there is not space to safely care for dad, and for growing boys. Mom is wary of having her sons play in their neighborhood and desires a home where it is safe for her sons to play soccer or ride bikes.
