One families story of homeownership

It was a beautiful day as family, friends and Loudoun Habitat supporters gathered to celebrate the dedication of a home to the Flores-Portillo family on May 2, 2017.  Sara and Carlos have dreamed of a safe and stable forever home for themselves and their daughters.  Both Sara and Carlos have experienced great tragedy and challenges in their lives, persevered and held on to their dreams.  They were introduced to Loudoun Habitat by their Ayuda advocate who has walked closely with Sara and Carlos through this process of homeownership. Though most of the rehabilitation work on this home was already complete by the time the family was selected as partner homeowners, Sara and Carlos were diligent to work alongside volunteers and staff at the ReStore to complete their sweat equity hours. Their family has also supported them in achieving this dream, including working with Sara and Carlos to complete their sweat equity.  Their eldest daughter supported her parents by caring for her two younger sisters so that her parents could dedicate this time to completing these hours.  Sara and Carlos are both extremely appreciative of all the support they have received and the hands of the volunteers who have done so much to make this dream a reality.
