Loudoun Habitat Receives $30,000 Grant from Wells Fargo to Support Programs

The Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded $30,000 in grants to Loudoun Habitat for Humanity (LHFH) to support two projects across their Homeownership and Home Repair Program. Loudoun Habitat is one of more than 230 Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded grant funding nationwide through the 2023 Wells Fargo Builds program to help more low-to-moderate income families access and maintain affordable homes.

The grant to Loudoun Habitat for Humanity will support the affiliate’s on-going work in the Howardsville community located in Bluemont, VA. Loudoun Habitat for Humanity is working to bring safe and fully functional housing to a long-time resident of Howardsville. He lives with substandard housing conditions that include no running water or electricity. Funding from this grant will be utilized to provide a safe and functioning home for this resident.

The funding will also support a project in the Home Repair Program in Sterling, VA. Loudoun Habitat for Humanity's Home Repair Program is filling a critical gap in services for low-income homeowners in Loudoun County. This grant funding will support a disabled, single mother of four who needs assistance repairing her home so it is safe for her family. When applying to the program, this mother explained that her repairs were urgent, and she did not have the means to repair them on her own due to physical restraints and a fixed income. Upon evaluation of the home, LHFH program staff identified several critical repairs needed, including replacing inoperable windows that put the family at risk of danger in a fire. The Wells Fargo grant will purchase new windows for the family, giving them peace of mind that they have safe exits available in case of emergency.

“We are extremely grateful for the continued financial and volunteer support of the Wells Fargo Build Program. Without their generosity and commitment to affordable housing, these projects would not be possible.” Amanda Baulig, Programs Director, Loudoun Habitat for Humanity.

On June 20, 2023, Wells Fargo volunteers joined Loudoun Habitat in their work in the Howardsville Community. Volunteers worked to construct a new shed that the future homeowner will use to store maintenance equipment used in his landscaping business.

This funding is part of a $7.5 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International through the 2023 Wells Fargo Builds program to build and repair more than 350 affordable homes nationwide.
