Leesburg, VA (October 4, 2021) –Last week, Loudoun Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 62nd home in Loudoun County.  Ana and her adult daughter, Veronica, are the first mother/daughter duo to purchase a home through Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, a home that represents one of the Habitat for Humanity core values, the STABILITY of home.

As a single mother raising her four children in the Los Angeles and Northern Virginia areas, Ana moved from one apartment to another every couple of years due to constant rent increases. The family moved to Loudoun over 20 years ago where Ana’s three older children have married and started their families. Ana’s daughter, Veronica, shared with Loudoun Habitat for Humanity that as the youngest child in her family she feels it is her responsibility to ensure her mother finally has a stable place to live.

Ana and Veronica realized that neither of them could purchase a home on their own working in their residential house cleaning and licensed Esthetician jobs. A friend of Ana, who had just purchased a Habitat home, encouraged Ana to apply. They were accepted into the program in December of 2020 and started their Habitat journey to homeownership.

Veronica and Ana have completed several homeowner education classes, met with financial mentors to help them learn how to work together in preparation for purchasing their home with a mortgage and the financial responsibilities of home maintenance. As part of their sweat equity requirement, both worked in the Loudoun Habitat ReStore on their days off. Veronica participated in several build days at other Loudoun Habitat projects learning important home construction and maintenance skills. Ana helped by making lunch for a group of volunteers on a Habitat project. Ana and Veronica are looking forward to unpacking their moving boxes one last time in their permanent, affordable, stable home.
