Home for the Holidays

Having previously worked for the State Department in Pakistan in journalism and mass media relations focused on Human Rights, Imran Ali, his wife Romana and his three daughters moved to the United States in 2014 for more educational opportunities for himself and his children.

As a new resident to the United States, Imran struggled to build credit and was denied rental assistance. With the help of a good friend and hard work, Imran now works for a security firm in Loudoun County, juggling his schedule to be home at night with his family. Since being approved for the Loudoun Habitat Homeownership Program, the Ali - Afridi family has embraced the training they have received to reduce debt, improve credit, and build a savings. Through one-on-one financial mentoring and participating in training, Imran and Romana made significant improvements in all three areas of financial preparation.

In October 2021, Imran and Romana introduced their three daughters to their new home and assisted them in installing the doorknobs in their new bedrooms. With pride the girls not only installed doorknobs but dreamed of how they would decorate their new rooms and play in their new backyard.

Imran shared “Purchasing a home with Loudoun Habitat will provide us financial stability where we can pay a stable monthly payment. It will also provide us enough space and privacy. When we get our own home, then we can make strong, good ties in the community.”

The Ali - Afridi family has partnered with Loudoun Habitat with enthusiasm, excitement, and eagerness for what the future holds. They are ready to plant roots in their community where they can experience the stability that will allow their children to pursue their dreams.
